So, in case you missed it, I chatted with Mitchell Plested of the Get Published! podcast yesterday about serial writing in general, and the Carter’s Cove Advent stories in particular.   Here’s the link, if you want to listen to our conversation (which was pretty awesome!):

Mitchell’s podcast is awesome anyways, so you should be listening on a regular basis!

I’m sorry, folks.  I’ve been neglecting the blog this month, because I’m knee-deep in the Advent story for next month, and it’s NaNo, and yeah, that’s not an excuse, but there it is.  However, I have some goodies coming up, and I wanted to let you know!

First, I’ll be on Mitchell Plested’s Get Published  on Sunday, November 24, talking all things serial stories and Carter’s Cove.  So listen!  No spoilers.  I promise.

Secondly, Schrodinger has both a Facebook page and a Twitter feed that you can follow him on. He’s going to have some fun goodies, and he’s sending Christmas cards again this year!  Want to get a Christmas card from Schrodinger?  Leave him a private message on Facebook, or send him a message on Twitter, and he and Molly will send you a Christmas card!

Thirdly, the first day of this year’s Advent story is November 30th!!! Yes, it’s a prologue!  So don’t forget!

For the rest of the year, here’s what I need/want to write:

Novels:

- Forgotten (Ghost Tales #1)

Novellas:

- Contemporary Romance (under pen name)

- Tales of the Scorned Lady, Season 1

Short Stories:

- A Princess, A Lizard and a Boatman

- The Lonely Child

Other Projects:

- Advent Story #2

- Podcast Tales, Season #1

- Record Horseman

I’m sure this will change, but this is what I have right now.

Ah, autumn. Where the days get shorter, the nights get colder, the apples are crisp and Val, sadly, starts to get a bit cranky, because while fall is beautiful, she hates winter and knows it’s just around the corner. It gets harder to get up in the morning, and the cats don’t help, because despite their fur coats, apparently they get colder than I do (who knew???) and so they snuggle in with me in the mornings and whisper, “Don’t get up, Mom.”

I’m trying something new this fall – making certain everything I have to do the next day is laid out, so I can lay in bed a bit longer. I’m hoping that I can deal with the change in seasons by getting more active, not less, and although I know it’s going to be hard, I’m determined to make a change.

Took me a while to get moving today – there was a headache brewing, and I needed to sleep a bit more. Sleep has been odd lately – not quite sure if it’s not enough, too much or too light, if you know what I mean. I’m going to make sure to take my vitamins and hope that helps. But I made my to-do list yesterday evening before bed, and I’ve already started.

I REALLY want to get to the gym to at least swim, and I’m blocking it into my schedule for today. I WILL make it two times this week. I made it Wednesday – I can do it today.

To-Do for A Sunday of Domestic Goddessness:
- 4 pm – hit gym
- Meal plan for the week
- Grocery Shopping (after gym)

- Laundry
- Dishes
- Put away CSA
- Clean car out
- Drop off library books
- Vacuum downstairs
- Bake banana bread
- Finalize Rebirth and record

Laundry is started – already got one load folded and put away. About to start on the second. I WILL be at the gym at 4 pm. I WILL.

More updates as I get stuff done.

Yes, I know! You thought it was dead! It's not! Just on a wee (okay, an extended) hiatus while I take care of some other things. Once this month is done, I'll be taking a weekend to just record as much as I can, so we can get back on a regular schedule. I do appreciate your patience, and promise that the rest of the book (as well as the other two!) will be coming.

So here, without further ado, is Episode 6 of Not Your Father's Horseman.

And yes, once I get everything up and released through my own feed, I want to submit to Podiobooks. They have a very strict release schedule, and without having all the episodes done first, I don't think I could meet it. That's why it's not there yet.

The link to the episode, because for some reason, I keep crashing my browsers when I try to upload the player.

So, I wrote a story for this cool writing blog called EveryPhoto Tells…- basically, they post a photo every month and invite folks to submit short stories based on the photo. I really enjoy listening to the stories, and today, there’s one by me!

Answers in the Wild

And if you want to check out the blog, it’s here: EveryPhoto Tells… There’s some great talent there, and it’s fun! I can’t wait for the December photo – I’m sure it will be awesome! And who knows? Maybe I’ll write a story for that one too!

Sorry, folks – if you’re following the Libsyn feed, you know this came out Thursday, but I haven’t had a chance to upload it here to the blogs until today. But I am uploading it!

And here it is! Shadow Lord goodness!

Next episode will be out September 19th.

Sorry, folks, work’s been running both me and my producer ragged, and so the newest episode of the podcast is a bit delayed. *sigh* This is why they say to have episodes done ahead of time! I tried, I really did! *sigh*

Anyways, with life speeding up to the speed of plaid, I’m making the decision to move to a 3-week drop schedule. From now on, we’ll be dropping episodes once every 3 weeks. I just need the extra week to make sure I have everything together, and that way, I don’t have to spend Sunday nights stressing. :)

Thanks for your understanding, and that episode will hopefully be up in the next day or two!

Actually, it went live Sunday night, but I haven’t had a chance to post it here. *blush* Did I mention my producer is the best???

Not only has he posted the epiosde, but he got it onto iTunes! So now, if you search for either my name or Not Your Father’s Horseman, you can subscribe right through iTunes! *squee*

For those looking to listen, here’s the link to the episode on Libsyn:

So now that I’ve spilled the beans on Mitchell Plested’s podcast Get Published (Interview here!), I’ll announce it here officially.

Rum and Runestones did so well that we’re doing a sequel! And this time, I’m opening it up to submissions. BUT – there are some caveats.

1. I’m looking for the following: Pirates. Magic. MUST BE ABOUT Pirates and Magic!

2. Stories must be under 8k.

3. Stories cannot be submitted before November 1st. If you submit it before November 1st, it will be deleted unread, unless I have said something to you earlier.

Stories can be submitted to val@vg-ford.com starting November 1 and ending November 30.

The title of the new book? Spells and Swashbucklers.

Wasn’t sure the day job’s firewall would let me into WordPress, but yay, it does!

I hope you guys enjoyed the first episode – I know, there’s an issue with bells about 2 minutes in – tomorrow morning, I hope to be able to pull it out of the feed, fix it and drop it back in, but that’s the earliest I’ll be able to do it. The next Episode will be dropping August 8th – I’m doing a bi-weekly schedule. I hope you’re enjoying it!

I have metrics to post as well from Saturday – I’m hoping to write later today, but I don’t know, as I’m trying to finish Queen’s Favors for Pennsic and study for my Criminal Law midterm on Thursday. *sigh* I forsee locking myself in my office on Saturday, I think.

Hope you guys are doing well! I’m staying afloat, which is all I can hope for right now, I think.

I have just uploaded the first episode of the Not Your Father’s Horseman podcast to the libsyn feed! Here’s the link to the first episode:

Episode 1 – Prologue

I am working on uploaded the files to here as well, but it’s saying it’s too large to upload. :P Again, the technology, she defeats me. As soon as I figure it out, I’ll be uploading it here.

I hope you enjoy it! Either leave me a note here, or on the Libsyn page, or Tweet me, but let me know what you think!

So, I’ve gotten stuff rolling with the podcast – in fact, I’m recording as we speak. This is fun! Lots of work, but fun.

The podcast begins dropping July 25th – I’m going with a biweekly schedule, so I don’t kill myself. I wanted a bigger buffer, but meh, I’ll do what I can.

Also, for the next two weeks or so, I’m going dark – I have a ton of stuff coming due, and work wants OT. Of course. So if you really need me, drop me a DM on Twitter, or text me. I’m going to try and check in, really, but I can’t promise I’ll look at the email more than once a week, so if it’s urgent, grab me at one of the two options above.

I will be posting word counts (I hope!) and will be checking comments on LJ when I get the chance.

Oh, and the podcast stuff will all be under the Podcast tab – I’m doing a new page for each episode. Probably not the best way to do it, but I’ll learn as I go. I can’t seem to figure out how to post a blog post to more than one page. Of course, I could move everything over to the blog here, but I’m not sure folks would want that. Or would you? Let me know. It would bleed over to the LJ, of course. Maybe that is the best way.

Here’s the promo, if folks want to listen to it.

So you all remember that I won a custom musical theme by Alex White (of The Gearheart fame) in the Boom Effect auction, right? I got the theme last night, and I am SO excited to share it with you guys!!!! Alex is an amazing writer and musician, and all I can say is this is one very, very cool piece.

Without further ado, I give you "Ride of the Horseman," by Alex White, which will be the intro/outro theme for the "Not Your Father's Horseman" podcast, coming in...June!!! (yes, I have firm dates. I start recording this weekend)

Ride of the Horseman (The link plays as soon as it opens)

What do you guys think?
First of all, I've got a new look on the journal. What do you think?

Second of all, I've been offered a really neat opportunity. In the next few weeks, a musician friend of mine will be finishing bringing his professional studio back up on line. And he wants to get into....

Podcasting.

Yup, Val will have a professionally produced podcast in a few weeks. (Stop gnashing your teeth at me, [livejournal.com profile] teemonster. You didn't really believe I was going to wrap my brain around that technological stuff, did you?) Which begs the question:

What should I do my podcast on? Thus the poll....

[Poll #670236]

And good news on the weight: didn't lose any more, but didn't gain any either! So net loss on the year is still 3 lbs.

Off to work on stuff. Writing stuff. Yeah, that stuff.
