Yes, TWO!  How exciting!  And they can be yours, for very little money!

The first is the FM anthology – A Princess, A Boatman and A Lizard, which has my original story “Convoy” in it, along with some other fantastic stories.  All proceeds go to help keep Forward Motion running, and since I don’t think I would still be writing if not for them, I’m happy to help support them.

You can order this at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Smashwords for $4.99.

Also, as I posted to Twitter/FB Friday, Tee and Pip have released Tales of the Ministry: Collection 3, which includes my story “The Sun Never Sets.”  This is set in their Steampunk universe from The Ministry of Peculiar Occurances, and was a lot of fun to write.

You can order this one from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Smashwords for $2.99.

Also, in case you wanted more goodness from me, let me remind you that I have a stand-alone novella, “Snow,” set in the Horseman Universe, also available for $0.99.  This was a fun romp through a “what-if” – what if Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and Jack Frost not only existed, but were Elemental Lords?  And what if Nikki had to deal with them – without killing anyone?  Warning: this one is adults-only.

You can order Snow from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Smashwords.

There will be more coming – I will be releasing a couple of short stories in the next couple of months, including Schrodinger and Molly’s first adventure together, and another Christmas story that I wrote and released on the blog a couple years ago.  I’m also working on a novella for publication in the spring.

And coming this Saturday, the second Schrodinger and Molly adventure!

It can be spring/summer now, okay? Seriously.

(two hours to get into work. Don't even ask me how many accidents I passed.)
Look at this! Snow is up for the Preditors & Editors 2008 Reader's Poll!

Go and vote, please! This is awesome!

Now I have to go and see who else is nominated too!

Edited to add: Holy crap, I'm number 7 on the list!! You guys rock!
Day of Happiness 2 - Geek day! I got my Hunter to level 40!!!! And started a Paladin who's almost level 12. (I want a secondary who can tank, and Hunters aren't the best tanks) I know, I'm hopeless.

I also need a WoW icon. Must get on that.

More tea reviews will be forthcoming - I plan on drinking a LOT of tea today.

For the rest of the year, I need to work on Belladonna Dreams. I'd like to get the entire thing done so I can start querying it. I've been saying that for the past few years, and I need to get it out. Just do it, you know? And I have no real excuses - I have a year to work on Last Rites. I'll be posting a goal list in a few days. And I need to start totalling up words for the year. I wonder how many I got this year?

It's still snowing. Bah. I have to shovel again soon.

To dos for today:

1. CLEAN KITCHEN!!!! I'm so sick of the mess that is my kitchen. Cleaning and reorging today. No excuses.

2. Gingerbread cookies. I need to use the rest of the dough I made.

3. Crits for DII.

4. Christmas cards.

5. Wrap Christmas presents.

Then we'll see.

Off to shovel now.
Day 1 of Happiness?

Finishing my Christmas story BEFORE Christmas EVE!

In other news, Dark Moon Seasons has been turned into my publisher. As soon as I have dates, there will be a countdown clock.

It is still snowing. Bleah.

I am off for the remainder of the day to play WoW with my sweetie and drink. It's a good thing.

The phone rang just as Nikki Jeffries came in the kitchen door, her arms piled high with shopping bags. She dropped the entire mess on the island, stripped off her gloves, and dug her cell phone out of her pocket, frowning at the number that flashed insistently at her. “Damn, what now?”

She flipped open the phone. “Please tell me I don’t have to kill someone this week for you. It’s Christmas!”

When an Earth Lord goes missing nine days before Christmas, the Reweaving ritual is compromised, threatening the very stability of the World Walls. With only two days remaining to salvage the ritual, Nikki Jeffries, the Horseman Death, must find the Earth Lord. But who can she trust? Enemies come in many shapes, and Nikki will need to trust her instincts as she unravels the mystery of Lucia's disappearance.

Genre: Fantasy

Be watching for the release of Snow, a what if story based in Ford's Horseman universe, on December 5 from Lilley Press!
I can has plans. Lots of plans.

Today, I meet with a new doctor - my nutritionist. I'm terrified, frankly. Why, in the name of all that's holy, did I decide to start a new eating way of life THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING??? I hope she's gentle. :p

But honestly? It's probably for the best. I mean, there's always "One more Thanksgiving" or "one more Christmas"...until there's not, and then you've gone, and nothing's changed. I don't want to die a fat old woman. (I don't want to die at all, but that's different.) So might as well carpe diem and get moving. Don't worry, I'll keep you all updated.

I think I'm buying an eMachine rather than the Acer - the eMachine has a better video card, and since I'm playing WoW...

Tonight is class, and I have to make up my mind on the wording of the intro to Snow (which is why I haven't sent it back yet, [ profile] domynoe - I'm not happy with what I have. Other than that, it's done) and send that in. Then I have cases to brief for class, and sleep.

I'm so tired lately. I think it's a combination of the extra weight I'm carrying and the cold I'm fighting. Hopefully Maria and I will start working on that today.

Oh! And Puck is sitting in Manchester! I pick him up on the way to Maria's!
But I needed it. Shake the last of the work-related stress and all that.

This week, it's back up on the horse (or the cat, as the case may be). I got my first mount last night in WoW - yay! Now I can stop trying to level like crazy and pick up Dreams again. I need to try and get at least double-digits in my NaNo before I give up entirely *looks guilty*.

Tonight, I'm dropping off a book, going home to make dinner, and then off to class. In between, I'm proofing Snow and hoping I don't miss anything. I hate proofing my own work - I ALWAYS miss something.

Puck arrives Wednesday - I have to call tomorrow and ask if they can hold him at the UPS center so I can pick him up. Yay for new Neo!

In sad news, Heracles (my desktop) has been increasingly grumpy. He's shutting down randomly (not even blue screen of death - he goes straight to black) and is starting to reject my mouse. He's also rejecting all attempts at a USB mouse. *sigh* But he's nearly 7 years old, and has seen hard use. I'm thinking of getting an Acer - there's a nice one on sale at Office Depot this Friday....

More later. Back to training now.
Yep, the new desk (thank you again, [ profile] beard5!) is now up and fully functional. The cats are confused. (edit: Dear lord, they've discovered they can jump on top of it. This could be very, very bad. Sebastian is sitting on top of the shelves, looking scared.) The only thing that I don't like is where the keyboard is - the keyboard tray succumbed to the elements (unfortunately, part of it had to sit in my yard for about a week before we could get it inside) and my keyboard only has one foot. However, I have another keyboard (I have about 3, actually), so I might swap it out. We'll see.

You all know what this means now, right? It means that I can write in my office again! (It also means I have no excuse to boot [ profile] argus7hills off his super-fast computer to play WoW) And I can now podcast! That will be happening very, very shortly. I want to start getting Horseman on the air...

And maybe, just maybe, there will be a podcast of Snow for Christmas. If I can read sex I wrote without blushing, stammering or anything like that.

Off to bed now. I need sleep so I can get up tomorrow and get back on the exercise horse.
I've got a Facebook fan page now, courtesy of [ profile] jacob_day.

It's here, and there's a goodie there - a release date!

Friend me?

Edits have been sent off to editor. I'm heading back to bed. I hope I can make it to work tomorrow.

But Snow is done. Now on to Seasons.
vg_ford: (winter tea)
( Oct. 27th, 2008 01:32 pm)
Yep, editing. I got about half of my edits for Snow done this weekend - I'm looking to have the other half done by Thursday (including the pre-editing that I haven't done yet) and off to the lovely [ profile] domynoe by then. I'm VERY happy with the way this novella is turning out - it's going to be a fun story, and a good intro to the Horseman universe.

One unexpected side effect - I'm getting ideas. Yes, another Horseman novel. But not the Horseman you'd expect. There have been references all along to the Elemental Wars. I'm thinking that at some point in the future, I might try and write those. I'm not sure.

But onward and upward. Once I finish Snow, I jump directly into Seasons edits. And I think those will be a lot more substantial...

Snow will be available in e-format this year. And maybe, if y'all buy lots of the ebooks and encourage your friends to do so as well, it might make it into paperback next year. Just sayin'....

More later.
Yay, I can see the weekend!!!

Thank you to everyone who sent me hugs - sorry I didn't respond before, but we were literally flat out. I finally got to sleep in this morning (until NINE! Bliss!) and woke in a pool of sunlight and kittens. I could get used to that.

So, here's the updates:

School: Passed Algebra with a 98 for the semester - go me! (I will deny unto my dying day the rumor that I never opened the book when I wasn't in class. I flipped through it when I got it...)

Paralegal - I'm not so sure. I'll find out next Monday. I'm HOPEFUL of a B - but we'll see. My class participation and two of my quizzes may have done me in.

Weight: I had no access to a scale yesterday, but I weighed in today!

Starting weight: 291 lbs.
Current weight: 289.6 lbs
Change: 1.4 lbs

I went up .2 lbs. Considering my eating habits for the past week (I was LIVING on junk food. And takeout. And cola.) I am very, very pleased with this. I didn't pack a lunch today (bad me) but I am drinking seltzer and iced tea and hot tea, not cola. And I will be home for a good meal for dinner. And I went for a walk today on lunch! It was GORGEOUS out - I was listening to the John Tesh Radio Show Wednesday night (go ahead, laugh, but it's got a TON of good information for your life, and lots of 80s soft rock), and apparently one of the best things for your blood pressure, especially in stressful situations, is a walk in the woods. And the NH woods are full of color now. If it's as sunny tomorrow, I might bring my camera with me.

Writing: Tonight, I'll be working on the edits for Snow. This weekend, after I send those off to the lovely [ profile] domynoe, I'll pull out the edits for Seasons. And I still have to sign up at NaNo - I'm signing up and I'll be posting word counts, but it's going to be for Belladonna Dreams. My goal on that is to have it ready to go out the beginning of 2009.

Work: I made it through the three days of hell this week. I'm on the downward slope now. One month from tomorrow, I will start 401k training. I can make this. I can.

And I registered to vote today. Go me! Also indulged in a little retail therapy and bought two pairs of new shoes. I'm cleaning out my shoe closet tonight and donating most of them to Goodwill - I'm past my "omg they're so CUTE!" phase and into my "I need shoes that look good and have some support as well" phase.
start: 0
end: 3869
added: +3869

starting line:
“She has to know I’m planning something,” Nikki pointed out. “As a former StarChild, she knows what the Horsemen are and aren’t capable of. And I all but told her point-blank that you were the only Lord around here I don’t suspect at this point.” She grimaced. “I’m sure I’m not on her nice list at this point, but oh well. I’m not really here to make friends.”

ending line:
THE END (yeah, I know, I'm mean. Deal with it)

“I’ve danced with darkness before,” he murmured against her lips as they both came up for air. “And tonight, the ride is worth the danger.” He drew back briefly, and Nikki saw Power and lust shining in his hazel eyes before he kissed her again. No gentle touch this time: his lips were commanding, demanding, and she only hesitated briefly before surrendering.

Heads turned at the sound of her bootheels on the marble floor, and Nikki let their shocked whispers slide off her. She’d gone to full Horseman mode: all black, from her high boots to the Shadows that clung to her shoulders, a living cloak of magic. The black silk of her shirt echoed the storm clouds in her dark blue eyes, and she stuck her hands in the back pockets of her jeans as she surveyed them, contempt written in every line of her body.

I think I came out at about 20k for this draft. I'll let y'all know when I get both pieces together. (sigh) But it's done! And tomorrow night, after I get home from dying class, it will be going to the editor!

(In courier 12. Really.)
