I have had an ephiphany

I cannot work in silence. Not at all.

So now I have TWO sets of headphones on - my headset for work, and my headphones on top of it. And I am much happier.

And nope, boss doesn't mind. I get some odd looks, but what do I care?

I has my music again.

When I was on the phones at my current company, we were allowed to play music out loud through our speakers as long as our cube neighbors couldn't hear it (or didn't complain) and, more importantly, the customers couldn't.

Now that I don't take calls anymore, I spend my entire work shift blasting music via headphones (and bouncing in my chair), and I've noticed that the times I find myself just staring blankly at the screen or mindlessly surfing instead of working, I've usually forgotten to turn my music back on. Once I have it back on, I'm processing data and looking at charts and modifying websites again. (Oooh, exciting.)

I'm glad to hear you get your tunes! They are powerful!

It sets the mood. It is good.

We have shared cubes, so we have to use headphones. Days, I wouldn't be allowed to do this (or sew, for that matter), but nights are a bit more laid-back. And I usually hit pause when I get a call.

I'm so happy my manager said it was okay as long as it didn't affect my calls. Which it hasn't - they've gotten better, since I'm happier!

I can't wait until I get to get off the phones - then I'll be able to play music all day...

We have (had) shared cubes, too, but no one really minded. It helped that my cube-mate liked my music ;) We just couldn't blast our speakers (except near closing when there were like 2 of us on shift... for a while, it was just me).

I wish you good prospects on getting off the phones! My managers will attest that I'm *good* on the phone, but I've always hated talking on the phone, pretty much my entire life, so I always thought getting into customer-service-to-tech-support was cruel and ironic. Luckily, it got me the experience in the company(ies) to jump into another career path. Although it's a narrow career path and I suspect that the phones may be in my future again some day if I ever have to change companies/jobs.

I'd better write a bestseller before then ;)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I'm good on the phones, but I hate dealing with people. :p I'm working on moving to the back, and dealing with work tickets rather than customers.

And yes, you'd better write that bestseller! Some of us want to read it! :D

Yeah - it looks bizarre, but I'm happier.

sweeeeet. We aren't allowed to have music playing at work, so I stuck an MP3 player into my hearing protection muff thingos and the little ear speakers hidden in my muffy bit. woohoo i can listen to music and nobody suspects a thing! lol

LOL! I was contemplating something like that before the manager okayed the double headphones.

Since my company (you know who that is ;) ) is too cheapass to give out points as much as they used to anymore, I think I'm going to use the ones I have to get a small desk radio. Half the people I work with listen to their own during the day, so that's probably a good idea for me as well.

And come to think of it, out of all of us there, I think I'll be the only one listening to the local alternative station rather than the r&b or country stations... :p

LOL!!!

Just be warned - you'll be taxed on it 3 months after you use them. So you aren't surprised on your paycheck.

Not that I've gotten that call or anything... :p

Wow. That really IS cheapass. Sheesh! I feel sorry for my coworker who just bought a flatscreen TV with her well-earned points...

Did you think ANYTHING was free? :p
