(writing) Spells and Swashbucklers!!!

This is your reminder post - the open reading period for Spells and Swashbucklers, the sequel to Rum and Runestones, starts on November 1st and runs through November 30th.

As with Rum, the rules are as follows:
- Pirates and Magic MUST be integral parts of the story
- 8k in length

That's it. That's all. Please keep it close to PG-13, although there's a little stretch room available. If you have any questions, or want to submit, email val@vg-ford.com

If you are emailing your submissions, please email them as attachments - I'm using Word, so I'd prefer that.

I look forward to seeing what comes in this time!

Just finished the first draft on mine. It needs quite a bit of polishing, and some trimming - it came in at 8600 words.

Woot! And that's actually not too bad for a word count. :) Looking forward to seeing it!

Yeah, I've been sort of stalled feeling, but I really got on a roll on it Sunday. I wrote the last 4K in one sitting.

This deadline I think I can make. ;-)

Considering I saved your entry from last time, you've already submitted. ;) Unless you don't want me to look at it?

Well, did I mention my original entry ran 10,500 words... The plan for the next couple weeks is to see if I can shave the word count down to your specs. I figure the closer I get before you start reading, the less editing you'll have to do and the better you'll like it.

Okay, I'm going to set "Chances Are" aside and start on the story for "Spells and Swashbucklers" tomorrow. Can't guarantee that it'll set the world on fire, but I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity and let the chips fall where they may.

Here's to ya, Val. Godspeed to us all.
