This sounds vaguely familiar. In the original incarnation of Seeker, one of my characters was the villian...til halfway through, when I realized he wasn't. Blocked me for weeks til a friend suggested a relatively simple solution...

In this case, someone portraying themselves as the ultimate villian - isn't. She's just got major delusions of grandeur.
