It works!!!

So, after much stress, heartache and heartburn, not to mention an hour on the phone with QuickPad tech support (thank you, Regina!!!), my IR receiver works!!!

In the process, we discovered that Puck is about 10 years old (which tickled Regina pink - that he was still working!) and that I have to watch while I'm uploading the file and hit Escape as soon as it's done, so it doesn't send random pages.

But the bottom line is, it works!!! Yay!!!

(In other news, today sucks. But it's Friday and it's getting better. Especially since I just saw my bank account. Booyah!!! Love bonus!!)

Bah.

Today sucks. I want a do-over.

Went home sick from work last night. Still sick. Called in today.

IR receiver - wrong type. Bite the fucking bullet and ordered directly from QuickPad, after talking to their tech line ("Why no, we don't have a standard IR port - why?" Because your site says you do, fucktard!!!)

So now, I'm sitting at my dining room table, pausing every 20 minutes or so to deal with sickness and trying to work on the damn book.

At least my Red Sox are winning.

Bah.

Back to work

Well, time to put the nose to the grindstone. I'm copying over by hand today from the QuickPad to the computer. More later.

Oh, and I ordered a new IR receiver. This one from a REPUTABLE store. Hopefully it should show up in a week or so.

The QuickPad is brilliant. Now I just need my IR Receiver, so I can post some word counts.

The book limps along. I will have it done, but I might be bald by the time I get to the end.

It came! Today!!!!

My QuickPad H45 came in today! So I'm trying it out at work today. I just have to get a USB IR Receiver so it can talk to the laptop. I'm going to stop at Walmart tonight to see if they have one, and if not, I'll stop at Best Buy/Circuit City/Sears/Etc tomorrow. Radio Shack or something.

Edit One: OHHOLYSHIT, I love this thing! I'm FLYING along, because I can't see more than 4 lines at a time, so I can't procrastinate by going back and rereading. I just keep going. I'm already done with one chapter and part-way through another. I hope I can find an IR receiver or get my other one soon, because I'm going to need it.

This is seriously the best $25 (for everything) I have ever spent.

jackoutofthebox, I'll be bringing it with me to Pennsic, if you're interested in looking at it.

New toy!

Well, I'm now the proud owner of a QuickPad H45 - just picked up a used one on eBay for $17.00 (including postage). I'm still waiting to see on my NEC MobilePro, but this QuickPad looks pretty good too - 100 hours of battery life on 4 AAs, and it's pretty much like a little Alphasmart, from what I can tell. When I get it in, I'll let folks know what I think of it.

More later - gotta go make dinner so I can run down to Nashua and get my bracelet. After I get out of work, I'm picking up HP 7!!!!

And here is my prediction (no spoilers, as this is a spoiler-free zone and I haven't read any of the stuff online) for who bites it (since Jo Rowling has been saying for a year that she's killing off characters): Draco and Neville. I don't think she'll kill Harry, but she's been building Neville up. I think he dies and saves everyone.

Just my predicition. Next week, we'll see how close I was. :)
