Okay, so I suck apparently at designing business cards. I need to figure out something that I want to use as a focal point to the design, and then go from there.

I DON'T want to use my cover for Horseman. For two reasons:

1. It might be changing.
2. It's not the only book I've ever written, and I'd rather not print new cards every time a book comes out. That's what bookmarks are for.

So, now I'm off to look at clip art and see what I can find. Those of you who've read my stuff, any suggestions?

I like your cat in front of the moon icon that you use. That would certainly give the right feel for your books. Personal opinion!

Feeling better today?

*blink* Damn, I never thought of that.

I'd have to find the artist again and see if I could use it, but that's a damn good idea! thanks! (my family is brilliant)

And yes, feeling much better today.

Oh, and I think I'm going to get those shirts made for us - you know, the Longstrider ones. ;)

Heh, you should wait until I have my business card generation site up ;) That's my next venture. Perhaps it'll inspire you. That, and I agree with the cat and the moon. That can work wonderfully.

Well, darlin' - are you going to have it up so I can get business cards printed before April 24th? :) I've emailed the artist who did the cat and moon and we'll see.

Do you go out to design them yourself specifically because you want to? Or you don't have anyone to design one for you? Because I can design one for you if you wanted.

And this site was supposed to be up by April 1st! I'm behind on schedule, alas!

Nope, designing them myself because I don't have any money to pay anyone else to do it. :p If you wanna design one for me, that would be great, but I can't afford to pay you this month (money's a bit tight).

Well if we use the birthday excuse I might just be persuaded to design something for you if you like ;) How are you getting them printed?

Here (http://www.printplace.com)

Alba suggested them.

Would you like me to design something for you or am I stepping on toes where I'm not welcome? I'm sorry to have made assumptions, I don't want to impose.

If you have time to design cards, I won't say no. :) I can't check messages from the artist until I get home, so I can't tell you if I can use it.

Basically, I'm looking for a design that shows I'm a writer, without bringing specific books into it, because I don't want to make new cards every time I have a book coming out. So I want something classic, timeless and darkly mysterious/magical. It needs to have my name, my website and on the back (in b/w) a listing of my books that can be updated.

*sigh* I'm a pain, aren't I?

Ok well if you get on Skype at some time it would be better to talk there about it. You mention having a list of books that can be updated- that's only something that you'd be able to do yourself or you'd have to reorder a completely new batch of cards each time a new book comes out.

Yeah, I know, but that's minor compared to redesigning the entire front every time. And really, it doesn't need to be on there - it was just an idea.

I'll be home late tonight - maybe we can talk tomorrow night?

Gee, thanks! Such love... Everyone should be so blessed to have a sister like you...:P

I like the cat icon too. What I did for mine was really simple; I have a pen and ink clip art and that's pretty much the only art on the business card. I think business cards tend to become too busy sometimes. Simple is better, imo.

http://www.avery.com/us/software/index.jsp is a link to Avery. They make the blank business cards you buy at Office Max, Staples, etc. In the middle of the page is a section for templates. You can flip through those and see if you can find any you like or alter enough to like.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards simple myself. Just for ease.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'll have to look there - thanks!

How's life in the great White North? :)
