So yesterday was Florence's funeral, and really, it was a good funeral (as much as any funeral is good). We spent a lot of time reminiscing about her, and most of the stories made us laugh. I didn't get to tell mine at the funeral, so I'll tell it here.
Donna (her daughter) is one of my best friends - we met last year when we were both in the same new hire class at Fidelity. However, I met Florence nearly four years ago. Karen and I were merchanting at Birka, and this wonderfully funny lady in a wheelchair came by and commissioned a book cover for her daughter. It was a golden Celtic cat on a black background.
Donna still has the book cover. How's that for a small world?
After the funeral, I went over to
cr_wchi_f's house to keep her company while she was working on our Halloween decorations for work. She painted, I wrote and the dogs kept us company. Thanks to her, I got a ton of words done. And she got 4.5 windows painted! (We're doing Hogwarts as our theme. It will be cool. I will post pictures)
And then today,
argus7hills and I went to Connecticut for our other grandmother's 80th birthday party. Gram got to see Lily for the first time, and I got a ton of pictures. We will be uploading them in the next few days.
Here's the metrics from last night:
New Words: 2175
Starting line: A quick shower, and she tossed on jeans and a tee-shirt.
Ending line: “Oh yes, Mr. Ashcroft, we know exactly who you are.”
Darling: She walks through the break in the trees and is hit by it: the hard-edged sensation of anger and discontent, laced with fear. They are eight now, where once they were nine, and the knowledge that they are not immortal is as unsettling now as it was twenty-three years ago. They are Lords, Elementals - and they are afraid.
Nice Things: Gave her a good night's sleep. And Shanna showed up! *happiness for the author, who loves Shanna*
Mean Things: Shocked Nikki. And gave Rick hell. And shook up the Council. And tied up Tony. Boy, I had a GOOD day! :D
Deaths: At least one big one is rumored.
I'd love to break 30k tonight. Wish me luck!
