So I overslept this morning (because I was up late making yummy stuff for
argus7hills's coworkers), and when I finally realized that the background noise was actually my alarm clock and not a soundtrack to my dream (yes, my dreams have soundtracks), WOKQ was talking about the scummy, slimy jerkwad who stole from the Salvation Army Wish Upon A Star program in Rochester, NH. I mean, come ON, folks! These are for kids who don't get a Christmas. To make matters worse, the program had already been expecting a shortfall - they said something like 40-50 families wouldn't be getting stuff.
Well, WOKQ's Mark Erikson and Danielle Carrier were really incensed by this (not that I blame them!) and were talking about it on air. I followed the story...
And by 8:15 am, when I was pulling into work, the listeners for the station had donated almost $4000 to replace the stuff. Not only that, but former NH Governor Craig Benson walked into the studio and wrote a check for $10,000.
The Salvation Army captain in charge of Rochester was blown away by the support.
The captain said one thing that really summed up the whole incident: "That person stole from kids. And they have to look at themselves every day in the mirror and know that, and live with themselves."
Good job, NH (and others, since WOKQ streams live, and I know at least one listener from PA donated) - those kids will have Christmas after all. AND, with the former Governor's gift, ALL the families will be covered.
So take that, Mr. Grinch.
