Couldn’t face my NaNo today, not after Margie’s funeral. I’ll be back at it tomorrow. So today, I wrote a short for EveryPhoto instead. Not sure if I’ll keep it, but I wrote it. It’s called, simply, Answers in the Wild.

Starting line:
A single leaf moved in the breeze, breaking away from its branch to drift by him as he hiked into the clear spring afternoon. He paused to follow its path, and that’s when he saw it.

Ending line:
Whatever humanity did with this gift, he hoped it was better than the last one he’d given them.

Darling:
“Thirty years can be a lifetime,” he said, recovering a bit. “Long enough to grow up, and grow old.”
