A long tentacle shot out from a creature she’d overlooked, one that she might have stabbed already; Nikki couldn’t tell, but it obviously wasn’t dead. The tentacle, tipped with a wicked claw, slammed into her armpit, nearly knocking her off Kore in a shower of blood. Nikki shrieked in pain, and in a fury aimed a bolt of Shadow energy at the creature. It exploded as her spell and Rick’s shotgun blast hit it at the same time, and Cleo folded over her saddlehorn.
