Starting line:
The background was the only part she’d actually finished: it was a swirling miasma of black, dark purples and blues that came together in a soup that almost appeared to move as he stared at the canvas. There were things moving in that soup; half-imagined nightmares writhing in either agony or ecstasy, just below where the eye could clearly discern them. And they hugged the blank area in the center of the canvas.

Ending line:
Justin sat up, wondering what time it was and just how long he’d be able to watch her before she realized he was awake.
