So yesterday, I drove down to Worcester to see my neurologist (doctor's appointment #1). The official weight loss since May 2009 is 22 lbs (yay!), and she thought that maybe I might need to reduce my pressure. We ended up compromising on a new sleep study (scheduled for April 3) and I agreed to try my CPAP again until then. I know that part of my problems this week have been because I'm not sleeping well. I don't get enough oxygen into my bloodstream when I don't use it, which means I don't get into deep wave sleep. So I spend all night dreaming and waking up and dreaming. It's exhausting.
She was also concerned about the inflammation in my nose, and sent me off to Primary Care to consult with them. (doctor's appointment #2). Same building, luckily. However, I had an hour wait before they could see me, so I ended up sipping a chai latte out in the lobby and reading more of How to Write Magical Words. I'm almost done with it, and it's all dog-eared from stuff that I want to remind myself of. Seriously, go and buy this book. Seriously. It's good, solid advice from people who know what they're talking about, and it gets you thinking. Without preaching.
So, back to Primary Care. If you recall, I came home from StellarCon with a raging sinus infection and a double-ear infection. Neurologist was concerned that the inflammation in my nose was proof the infection wasn't really gone, and didn't want me to use the CPAP without making sure it wouldn't make things worse. PC said nope, no sign of infection, but the inflammation was "troubling." Yay. So I got a different nasal spray to try (similar to Nasonex) and a "just in case" script for Augmentin, because if the sinus infection DID come back, they wanted to hit it harder than they did before. (Joys of having a compromised immune system). He okayed both my Remicade next week and using my CPAP, but prescribed a Neti pot before I did use it.
Then up to Durham to meet with my nutritionist (doctor's appointment #3). She and I talked about how I don't eat when I'm sick/tired, and how I crave carbs when I am sick. We tinkered with my food plan, and I recommitted to two things: keeping a food log, and not trying to do everything from scratch. If I were a SAHM, maybe I could make all my own bread and stuff. MAYBE. But I'm not, and there's some good stuff available at the grocery store that I can use. Especially the Co-op I belong to.
The PC suggested that I take today off too, and I'm glad I followed that suggestion. Today I'm sore and really tired, but between the Neti pot (which was weird but not as bad as I'd feared), being able to use my CPAP and not wake up every hour, and an Ambien (I use them VERY rarely, so I have a stash), I'm finally starting to feel a bit better. The headache is mostly gone (YAY!)
Today is a take-it-easy day. I really need to record audio for Tee at some point this weekend, and I want to bake. And I have to do dishes. That's about it.
But a list helps me keep it together.
- Dishes in Sink #1
- Dishes in Sink #2
- Make iced tea
- Make granola?
- Strawberry scones?
- Morning pages
- 350 words of Last Rites
- Poll for my birthday
- Pick up clothing in bathroom
- Put away laundry in hallway
- Directions for Brian
- nap
- Red Sox at 7 pm
That's it. I'm not doing all that much. If I get to recording today, that's good - if not, I'll record tomorrow.
