Had my first hypnotherapy session yesterday - it wasn't and yet it was what I was expecting.

See, I don't see things in pictures in my head. I don't have movies running through my mind. I see things in words. Which, if someone is trying to take you through a guided visualization exercise, can be downright frustrating for both you and your guide.

Luckily, I'd warned Rick (my hypnotherapist) about this beforehand, so he adapted his style a bit. We're trying for a "get out of bed and do stuff (mainly exercise) instead of lying there like a sloth!"

It worked today, but I have to be honest and admit that when I woke up (before my alarm - go me!), I heard the downpour and went, "OHSHIT, did I leave my windows open?" (Yes, I had. Dumb!)

However, I was AWAKE enough to think coherently. And I stayed up after I came back in, took a shower and had plenty of time to do stuff this morning. So I'm counting it a victory.

We have our first follow-up session on Thursday. I'll keep y'all informed.

I see in words rather than pictures, too. I'm glad they were able to adjust to your style. I hope it keeps working for you!

Me too. I'll keep you guys updated.

And yeah, apparently we're weird (re: seeing in words, not pictures). The first time someone pointed this out to me, I just looked at them and said, "Dude, I'm a writer. Why is this weird?"

There are times when I wish I couldn't see in pictures (this happens a lot when hanging out with Rick) as it does make it hard to translate what I "see" for someone else.

LOL - I can understand!!! Hanging out with Rick is one reason I'm glad I can't see in pictures.

It's hell on the writing side too - I
never remember to put in too much visual
description of things because if I'm
reading a book that doesn't have it, I
*don't notice* it's missing.

Yep. Why do you think [livejournal.com profile] amcnh has to keep harping at me on that issue? :)

That is so cool. I hope it keeps going well. That is one of my future goals (kinda similar). To get up when I wake up, not just lay in bed lazing away til the last minute then i can get nothing done before work lol and not to just laze around after work lol
