I know very little about some of the people on who read my journal. Some people I know relatively well. (Some I know too well. You know who you are.) I read your journals, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you read me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips." I might feel compelled to mock your musical taste, but I'll certainly remember you.

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. If you would like, post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

I listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips.

Okay, not really, but it's better than anything I could come up with. How about - I will answer this meme, but I never repost anything like it to my own LJ because it's too much like spam and chain e-mail?

Hehe - okay! (And I always suspected you had a soft spot for she-turnips!) :p

I cannot write short - and every stand alone I've ever tried has spawned prequels and sequels - very few of which are actually finished. ;-)

You really want to know more about me? With all the hanging out we do on DII and LP? Lord, are you glutton for punishment or what?

Um, I was born in Puerto Rico and have lived in Maryland, Ohio, and California (both northern and southern).

And I used to want to be an artist. Not sure when or why I gave that up, but I never wanted to be anything other than artistic (except for a brief desire to be a teacher when I was 7--my brother cured that).

I am an NFL fan, and I schedule my Sundays in the fall around the games. But not being from around here, I am a Bills fan, not a Patriots one. My team just lost this weekend to end any hope of making the playoffs.

"Woot! Woot!" blows the DII horn.

OK, I’ll be the first to bite. I signed-on to LJ because of Jay Lake and Frank Wu (and all the noise that they made about this community at Norwescon/on the web/elsewhere). That is how I found out about DII. I joined up not to long afterwards and added all the DII folks on LJ to my friends list so I can keep up with wuzhappenin.

I’m politically independent, socially reclusive, and a die-hard atheist. I’m a red, white, and blue son of America: the one with a constitution and patriots willing to battle for those freedoms, even against the established US government. I come from a long line of patriot farmers on my mother’s side (including a signer of the ten-thousand man petition) while being first-generation on my father’s side.

I’m a retired FF/EMT and I currently teach emergency preparedness classes for a living. I’m in the process of writing my million words and learning the craft. The stories I have completed lean toward the dark side of fantasy but I have tales in the works from a host of other genres.

While I’m banging away at the keyboard, I like to listen to music. I subscribe to Napster which allows me to create song lists to go along with whatever story I happen to be writing. Whenever I create a new story, I create a new song list to act as theme music while I am writing. I find this helps the words flow.

I think that I have reached a level of competence that I’ll be able to sell a story in 2008, perhaps even see it published in the same year. I’m sure that I will be a stronger writer at the beginning of 2009 then I will be when the clock strikes midnight in a couple of weeks.

Hhmmm, there’s a few broad strokes of the brush. I have more on my profile. Well then, let’s hear from the rest of you.

Not including meeting them at conventions, I have a habit of either meeting or seeing famous people at random. As such:

--George Harrison (yes, the ex-Beatle)*
--Paul Pearce (NBA player)
--Carlos Santana
--Pat Morita*
--Robyn Hitchcock*
--3 of the 4 guys from Travis*
--one of the guys from Insane Clown Posse*
--Nuno Bettencourt (ex-Extreme guitarist)
--Steven Wright*
--4 of the 5 Gin Blossoms*
--Kate Elliott*
--R.A. Salvatore*
--all of The Verve Pipe
--some of the cast of Journeyman (filming on the street I commute down)

* = I've actually engaged in non-fanboy conversation with them

Granted, most of the musicians were met during meet-n-greets while I was working for a record store, but still...not something I expected to do until it happened. ;)

Let's see... something about myself. I've written 24 novels, but seem to stall when come to actual editing and getting something out the door.

Some things maybe you don't already know about me

I have a scar between my eyebrows that looks like a wrinkle, that is from the time my sister pushed a swing into my head when I was 3. I am also somewhat clutzy, especially when I was younger. For example, when I was 6, I was running away from my sister, and managed to run into a door frame, killing my two front baby teeth. And, another random one: I don't actually have a favorite food. I like lots of foods. If pressed I pick something, chocolate most often, but I have also used pizza, spaghetti, peaches, and others. I just love all of them though!

Not much to know about me really... but, here goes an odd one: when I was younger - I wanted to be a geologist. I love rocks. The way they're formed, the way they can be utilized - rocks just, well, rock.

I'm an Amtgard playing, F/SF/H writing, metal-head, garbing fourty-something. Evil grin

I love to sing. I was one of those boy sopranos until eighth grade, when I became a bass. The shortest, and deepest bass in the choir. In HS, I did the musicals my last 2 years, and sang in multiple choirs, even had a solo or two along the way. I did almost 2 years of voice lessons, and was a 4 octave baritone at my best.

I have a cardboard life sized Captain Kirk in my living room, but it wasn't my idea to have him.

Well... ummm... I hang out at DII. I really, really want to be a published novelist. I play the oboe, and I'm not too bad at it. My cat's name is Dr Watson, and he's fat and orange. I don't have a 'real job' atm. I want it to stay that way :)

Okay.. my turn

I think you know me fairly well from FM, mainly about my engagement and the ups and downs of it, but here goes.

While my absolute dream is to become a published author I also love to draw even though I'm not very good yet. Taking lessons from Maridus.. sorta. I love music of all kinds and played the clarinet for seven years, dabbled in the guitar and piano and sang a bit in high school though I mainly keep the singing to the shower or car with the radio blaring. I especially love showtunes like Andrew Loyd Weber or the old wonderful movie musicals. But surprisingly I'm learning to like heavy metal and hip hop.

I must be weird becuase I actually enjoy being a secretary. I was just thinking that actually. Sitting here starting up the computer, opening mail, checking the phones. I enjoy that kind of stuff and the freedom it gives me to work on my writing as well. I just don't really like my boss and can't wait until fiance can start his own business so I can work for him.. or rather, with him.

Other than that.. and the fact that I have five older brothers and am a cat lover marrying a dog lover and never want to leave Montana... I'm just you're ordinary writer shooting for the dream.

I collect skeletons and happy Buddhas. XD

See the above message. Now that I'll have practices available again, I'll be able to fence!

I'm a total language geek. I love learning languages and I actually think I'm going through withdrawal because other than the occasional foray into my Arabic workbooks I'm not trying to learn any at the moment.

Also, sometimes when I'm watching a DVD I'll turn on the subtitles for a language I don't know or am trying to brush up on (especially French, since I was fluent at one point but forgot most of the vocab) and try to learn the language that way. It hasn't really worked, but it hasn't stopped me from trying.

I'm tall.

No, wait, you already know that. Um... Let's see. You've met me so that rules out most things... Um...

Here we go!

I have a possum skull in my desk drawer that my husband gave to me, oh, sixten, maybe seventeen years ago. It's really COOL!
