Just a few things:

1. I've locked the comments on the immunization post, mostly because at this point the discussion was polite and I don't want it to devolve. Mostly, that post was to get my personal opinions out on the subject, because I do have them and as I was reading the other posts at Bear's and Making Light, I realized that I had more to say than I wanted to put in either comment thread. So no, it's not a comment on anyone who took the time to comment (and thank you all for sharing your views!) - it's that I've seen what's going on with those posts and just don't want to go there.

2. Today is a computer geek day - I've got the laptop open and up in Argus' study, because I'm reformatting his computer. It finally got to the point where he was having serious issues. So I'm working on galleys and then homework while I fix his. Very geeky.

Thanks for providing the framework for a decent conversation on the topic. I just got sworn at on another thread only the day before you posted yours and it was refreshing to see the difference some courtesy made in the discourse. :)

Not a problem. :) I'm all for differing opinions, as long as everyone in the discussion realizes that and acts as if we're all reasonable adults who can make our own decisions.

Exactly, which in many cases is hard to find. And why I expressed several times support for vals/ your personal stance, but also why I thought it should remain a PERSONAL choice.

On other discussion boards when i expressed my PERSONAL disapproval over the CP vaccine, and why, I got lambasted repeadely with the C word for not vaccinating my kids and I was an uneducated anti vaccination whore... and on and on, when they completely ignored that my kids HAD all the major vaccinations.

Sad. So thanks for an outlet to speak where we disagreed but were able to discuss it like adults.

Good grief. People can be so crass. (How's that for a "C" word?) ;)

I think my personal favorite is when I was called a whore for vaxing my outdoor cats against rabies but not vaxing my children against chicken pox. It was such an odd connection to draw all the way around (whore? really? and chicken pox = rabies???). Just...odd.

I get the same nervous twitch when people talk about removing parental choice from medical decisions as when people talk about requiring a test or license to become a parent. I get the impulse, but seriously...who sets the standards? Who interprets the data? Who makes that judgment call about someone else's family? Scary road to walk down.
