I weighed in at my sleep study on May 7th at 296 lbs (with clothes on). We figured 3 lbs for clothing, so I was 293 lbs at that point. (HORRIFYING!) Ugh. I've never been so heavy.

I got my CPAP on the 14th, and have been using it faithfully since then (except for Quest, because I didn't have a battery yet for it). And wow. What a difference.

Biggest difference? I stepped on my scale this morning and it said:

285.8

I've lost nearly 10 lbs in a month!!!  And it's not that I've been exercising or anything out of the ordinary - I've been SLEEPING.  For the first time in years.

And when I actually sleep at night, I wake up before my alarm clock and I'm not tired.  I don't crave the high-fat, high-sugar foods that I used to - I'm craving fresh foods.  I'm even passing on things like soda.  And chocolate.

Shocking, huh?  Damn, I should have done a sleep study sooner.

I haven't given up on my donation/exercise - I just haven't had a lot of time to record it.  I'm getting back to it tomorrow, though.  I'll post the new totals then.

Guys, I feel so awesome.  I can't wait to keep on this path.

Hey if you want a good website for tracking progress and whatnot, I've been using SparkPeople.com

Nice site, although its a bit of a pain to navigate. If you're interested I'll send you a link

Yeah, I'm signed up with SparkPeople, but I hate their site. Prevention.com has one too.

I would love to do that as I am in your boat and KNOW I dont sleep. i know I have apnea.. but they dont cater to night workers so I am just screwed out again.

Sigh I am glad it worked for you so well. Keep us posted with such good news

It depends on where you have it done - UMass does both day and night sleep studies. But it might not be in your insurance.

Thanks!

I did get a battery pack thingy from Walmart - they quoted me $300 for the one that actually goes with the machine! We'll see how this one works.

Thanks!

Val!!! I'm so happy for you! This is excellent news. I'm glad you got the study done!

Me too! Thanks! :)

Watch out - next year, I'll be in that bikini with Valerie Bertinelli! :P (Okay, maybe not, but I'll be feeling a lot better in my tankini!)

This is awesome news! And I'm not surprised--we are composed of interconnected systems, and too often the medical industry has looked at these too separately.

Yeah, I'm really lucky that my PC looks at the entire person, and not just the symptoms that happen to be showing. And all my doctors, with the exception of my nutritionist, all work in the same hospital.

Teaching hospitals FTW!

Thank you ... thank you. I hadn't made that association but... I have a CPAP but don't use it religiously. Well, that was until today. After reading your entry, I will start using it faithfully. I was losing weight but thought it to be due to the extra exercising that I'd started. Well, I'm still exercising but gaining weight. Not good. CPAP will be on tonight! I'm a "mere" 265 at 5'8" and want to be a lot, LOT slimmer! But being diabetic has been a hindrance. Thanks again for the insight! Sleeping my weight away. YAY!

Oh, I hear you, re: weight. I have Crohns' and so dieting is really, really hard. It's amazing what getting enough GOOD sleep will do! Good luck!

And by using your CPAP, you're cutting your risk of a stroke by 35% - another good reason to use it!

Also, wearing a CPAP... if the electricity goes off when you're sleeping, you'll be the first, the very FIRST person to know! Trust me on this one -- been there, done that! LOL.
