Dear Conservatives,
Congratulations. You have affirmed once again that you believe that all pigs are created equal, but some pigs are more equal than others. I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns. However, while this is still a free nation, I'm going to tell you how disappointed I am that you can't see past someone's gender and/or sexuality. Seriously.
I'm sorry that you feel threatened by the thought of two people who love each other being able to get married. I'm sorry that you believe that teaching hate (marriage is ONLY between a man and a woman and anything else is wrong/dirty/against the law) is better than teaching love (when two people love each other, they can make a lifelong commitment called marriage and have it recognized legally in the United States). And you've reaffirmed, again, why I don't think I could ever be a conservative.
But I'm going to close this on a positive note. The vote in Maine was closer than the vote in California, and I believe it will only continue to move in the direction that this nation was actually founded on: that ALL pigs are created equal. ALL. Not some pigs more equal than others.
And to paraphrase one of my favorite heroines, conservatives: The more you tighten your grasp, the more states will slip through your fingers.
No love,
Me
*pigs comments are allusions to George Orwell's Animal Farm, before I get flamed in the comments or the blogosphere for calling people names.
