So, it's that time of year again - when Val looks back, decides she's the laziest person in the world and makes massive goals that she'll never reach in an effort to make up for the horrid last year.

Except I've decided not to do that this year. This time, I'm going to have modest, managable goals for most of my life. This year, Val has A Plan(tm). All of these goals start 1/2/08, because that is the first day I have an actual schedule I can follow.

In my personal life, I have the following goals:

1. Eat better.

I'm done eating crap. Seriously. I've been eating crap for the last week or so as I run around like a nut, and I can feel how bad it is for me. So I'm done. I'm going to pack healthy bentos for lunch, and actually eat dinner with my hubby. Does this mean I'll never eat junk food again? No, of course not - but I'm not living on it anymore. And yes, this means that come 1/2/08, the soda is once again banished from my life.

2. Exercise.

I'm not getting any younger, and I don't want to be one of those old ladies who weigh 300 lbs and are confined to a wheelchair at age 60. Nope. Not at all. So my goal this year is to simply get moving. Friday nights will be dance night, and I'm hoping to try out for the day-job's softball league in the spring (LOOOOVE softball! Very bad at it, but love it!). And I want to walk again. Just move. You know?

3. Not gain back any of the weight I lost.

I lost 20 lbs this year. Go me! I'm hoping it's the first 20 lbs of a larger loss, but I am bound and determined it will not come back. So help me god.

4. Not stress as much.

2007 was a pretty stressful year. I'm cultivating a more laid-back attitude come 2008. Not playing the petty politics game, not worrying about everything. Nope. Me and Jimmy B, we're going to chill. Meet you all in Margaritaville, because it's 5 o'clock somewhere.

In my day-job life:

1. Figure out where in this company I want to go and how to get there.

Had a 1:1 with my manager today, talking about where I want to go with my career. Found out that there's a VERY interesting program being piloted at one of our other sites - I'd love to see where it goes, because it sounds like a good fit for me. I'm also going to start working on a development plan with her when she comes back in January.

In my writing-job life:

1. Finish Dark Moon Seasons and get it turned in.

Book 2 of The Apocalypse Cycle is due to my publisher in finished form August 31, 2008. Needless to say, I'm aiming for earlier than that.

2. Get Belladonna Dreams prettied up and out the door.

It's time to stop being a wuss, rewrite this sucker and send it out. No excuses. I want Dreams out by May.

3. Get caught up on all my editing duties.

There's another book I need to edit with [livejournal.com profile] davealaw and, of course, I have my new duties at LP.

4. Actually commit to 2YN.

Yes, I want to follow this through to completion. I'm just not sure which new idea I'll be doing it with (they're all kind of fun, so I might put a poll up to see which one y'all would like to see me work on).

5. Write the outlines for Last Rites and Descent into Darkness.

The next two projects that are contracted. They'll need to be in rough draft form by mid-2009, so I'd like to get started on them this year.

6. Work on some marketing.

Stuff coming on this - I have some ideas, but I need to meet with some people first.

Oh, and it looks like Calgary is officially a no-go this year. :( Manager confirmed that we're on a HW vacation bid cycle, and October-December are blacked out for us. :(

I can't. :( They can't guarantee me the vacation time - it's in our busiest time of the year, and we're not allowed to take vacations at that point. *sigh* So unless I get a new job, I can't go.

I'm looking at another way to handle goals/lifestyle changes this year, too. Good luck with yours! :D
