The rose garden was flush with new growth, fragrant blooms nodding their heavy heads in the warm breeze.

“A bunch of stuffed shirts who have nothing better to do than run people’s lives,” Justin said sourly. “Not that I have any strong opinions or anything.” She gave him a disbelieving look and he sighed. “Okay, the Council of Nine is the ruling body of the Elemental Lords. Technically, they’re an advisory body to the StarChild, but they pretty much run the Lands, as much as anyone can. Trying to get a bunch of Elemental Lords to do anything together is a lot like herding cats, and almost as frustrating. They’ll listen to the StarChild, and pay lip service to the Council, but really, Lords are an independent bunch, and most of the time they do what they want.”
