She wasn’t there; he knew that subconsciously, even as he searched the empty rooms, looking for any clue to where the owner of the house had vanished to. Each room lay exactly as he remembered from the last time he’d been there, as if Lucia had simply walked out the door to run errands or visit a friend. But he knew she hadn’t. It had been six long months since they’d seen each other…
Dust lay in a thin shroud over all the furniture; the water in the sink had shards of ice covering the abandoned dishes. No one had been here in at least two days…and that boded ill for the missing Earth Lord he’d come to see, even now.

After a very helpful session with my writer's group, I restarted this. Raphael is less whiny and more of a real man, and there's more backstory.
Oh, and apparently they (Raphael and Lucia) only have 20 days a year together. I'm so mean! But it's one more stake in the story.
Much happier now, especially since clothes are mostly clean. Now off to shower and bed, then up tomorrow for gym, work, then class.
And more writing during lunch, I think.
