As of 8 am this morning, per [livejournal.com profile] argus7hills. HIS work sent him home today. Mine, alas, did not. Despite the fact that we're running on emergency generators. Ah well.

Why is all the power out? Because the world looks like this (apologies - this was taken in the freezing rain with my cell phone):

The reports on the radio say that there are more than 200,000 PSNH customers without power right now, and they're expecting that number to rise this afternoon and evening, when the temperature drops to the low 20s and high teens and all this lovely rain freezes again. They're also saying it may take DAYS to get everyone back up and running. Ugh. There are tree branches and TREES down everywhere. Most of the towns I went through this morning at 6 am were without power, either completely or partially. We had power flickers all last night, which means not a lot of sleep.

Welcome to New Hampshire in the winter. *sigh* Oh well, it could be snow.

Then again, snow's less destructive, and easier to deal with.

Needless to say, if we lose power, we won't be going to Connecticut or Vermont this weekend.

Thanks! Not sure we're making it to CT this weekend - I don't want to come home to frozen pipes. (Gods, I sound like Dad. Shoot me?)

My parents in the Albany, NY, area lost power. In my portion of western Massachusetts, we just got rain (for which I'm grateful--I hate driving in ice, lovely though it is to look at.)

Your photo is gorgeous.

Thanks! And just watch out - they're predicting really cold temps tonight and tomorrow, which is what I'm worried about.

glad to hear you're okay - be careful on the road.

We had a lot of rain

Oh definitely. All back roads for me - I don't tempt fate on the highway in weather like this.

WOW. We don't get anything like that in Seattle.

Stay safe and warm! I remember when the power went out for a few days here a couple of years ago during below-freezing temperatures and it was miserable. I went to work just because they had power, even though I was also down with the flu and it was a 2 hour bus ride.

Yep, I've done that before. We should be okay - the line of destruction went south of us, but my folks are still without power, so we're staying here today.

Luckily, we've got a lot of blankets, and they have a fireplace and a wood-fired hot tub, so we should be warm. ;)

I had no power in raymond and had to use a chainsaw to get out of my driveway to go to work.
