She could See the Power eddies, like she never had before: green and blue and gold threads tangling with red and a sickly green, much like the light coating Thom’s hands.

darling:
Both Thom and Father Michael bowed and headed out. Malattia flew up to Thom when he exited the chapel, butting her head against his chest, worry flowing from her. He could feel it, but there was nothing he could do to assuage it. He reached out one hand, stroked her jawline and she jerked back, her eyes wide. Thom looked down – spider webbing flowed from his hand, not the slender lines that he’d seen before, but thick, goopy webbing that moved like a bloated, sickly worm. Striations of red and green moved within it, and somehow he knew it was the Chaos magic moving along the individual strands – the same magic that held him in check. It flowed over his Horse, sinking into her skin even as she fought it.

Then Malattia stopped on the top of a small hill, and Thom saw what waited for them below: two other horses, a grey mare and a blood-bay stallion, surrounded by what looked to be medieval knights. Knights on tall horses, all made out of jewel-toned light. His own army stopped behind him, and Thom knew, with a sinking feeling in his chest, that what was about to happen was a slaughter.
