I did a cool thing this morning - I went to a middle school near me (Woodbury Middle School, in Salem, NH) and participated in their "Read to Lead" program. It's a volunteer program they run every year, where they ask about 50 volunteers from all walks of life to come in and do a 15-minute reading to the 6th, 7th and 8th graders. We got the email at work, and I volunteered.

Well, I showed up with my big book o' Celtic Legends under my arm (because it was 10-minute readings and I love Celtic legends) and signed in. I got a bunch of 7th-graders, and we had a BLAST! They especially came alive when I told them I was an author. We talked about how I got published, what I read, why I read - they were great.

And more good news!!!!

Not Your Father's Horseman is one of THREE DMP books on the Short List for Science Fiction for ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year!!!! (The other two are Legacy of Morevi and Earthcore)

Commence the celebrations! (and the press releases)

Hey Val!

Sorry about you not being a mom, first off. Glad it isn't something evil, though.

Also, I have the track list for you for that CD "Nostalgia's Sea" is a compliation of the two albums of theirs that I can find: Primrose (P) and Feather and Fate (F). I'm not sure I entirely trust musicmatch, but this is what they claim:

1. Ungrateful Girl (P)
2. Naturally Cruel (F)
3. Remedy (P)
4. Infanta (P)
5. Between Feather and Fate (F)
6. Primrose (P) [This is where I start disagreeing - musicmatch says it's "Roses from the Yard" but I know it's Primrose]
7. Galatea (F)
8. Distance (P)
9. Skins of Lovers (P) or Johnny has Gone for a Soldier (P) [not sure which, but "Johnny..." is a trad. Irish tune, so should be easy to catch]
10. Johnny has Gone for a Soldier (P) or Skins of Lovers
11. Only a Whirlwind (F)
12. Orator (P) - [Cicero's Theme Song, in my head.]
13. Silently There (P)
14. Nostalgia's Sea (F) or If Palms Could Hold Sorrow (P)
15. Nostalgia's Sea (F) or If Palms Could Hold Sorrow (P)
16. They Lying (P)
17. My Virgin Widows (F) - [The Song of Blue Vervain, in my head]
18. This Love Ours (P)
19. As we Slept (P)
20. How Long (F)

BTW, what are you doing Oct. 14th? Think you could give me and a friend crash space?

That's awesome! I'm so glad you did that. I did some readings for an elementary school last November. I still have some of the kids come up to me in places like Walmart. We need to cultivate that interest in kids. Good for you!!!

They perked right up when I mentioned I was an author. WOW! It was great fun.
