Well, I went to St. Joe's today, and ended up not being admitted.

The reason for going to the hospital is that Monday marked week 3 of my current period.

Yes, week THREE.

To top it off, I'd only been done with my last period for a week. Oh, and that period? Was two weeks long.

Soooo, we needed to make sure nothing was wrong. I saw my doctor Monday, and she scheduled me for a pelvic ultrasound on Wednesday, but told me that if anything changed, I should check myself into the hospital nearest to me. I usually drive myself down to Worcester, because all of my doctors are there, but St. Joseph's is right down the road in Nashua.

Well, today I woke up feeling AWFUL. Like I had the flu - all achy and miserable. And yeah, still bleeding. So I took myself down to St. Joe's after all, and they did the ultrasound.

No tumors. No cysts. No fibroids. No endometriosis. No pregnancy.

In short, they think that my body is making too much estrogen (because I'm seriously overweight) and so they're using progesterin to "reset" my body chemistry. So the bleeding should stop within 2-3 days, and then start again as a normal period about 1 week after I stop the progesterin.

We'll see.

Sorry if I scared folks. I just didn't think everyone wanted the gory details. :)

If you're on BC, you might want to talk to your doctor about getting OFF the pill. I was on the pill, but I already have a lot of estrogen in my body, so the pill was causing all kinds of horrible side effects (the worst of which was that my heart would flutter and pound 24/7).

I'm actually off the pill now and ON progesterone with no ill side effects. If you don't have a doctor that specializes in hormones, you should definitely look for one. I know it's helped me a lot.

I'm not on BC, actually - we were just talking to her about hormone therapy, but the fertility kind. :)

I have a lot of other problems (I'm on so many meds right now that I swear I rattle as I walk) and they think it might be partially that. Oh, and I need to lose about 100lbs to be even CLOSE to a healthy weight. *sigh*

Thanks for the advice - I'm on the progesterin now and we'll see how that goes.

How scary!

I don't know how old you are, but is there any chance of odd periods due to peri-menopause?

I still have a period about every six months and it usually lasts about two weeks before it finally stops.

I hope the hormones help and that you feel better SOON!

Thanks.

I'm only 32, so they don't think it's peri-menopause yet. If the progesterin doesn't work, my doc (who's also an OB/GYN) has some other tests they want to try.

They just ruled out thyroid and iron deficiency problems with the bloodwork yesterday, so we'll see.

I'm glad it wasn't something awful. Sorry your still feeling crappy though. Hope the system gets back on track
soon. I'm sure it must have been scary for you.
Hugs

Thanks. :)

I'm feeling a bit better this morning - the headache is FINALLY gone (love my Vicodan!) and the tummy is not quite as icky feeling. I'm heading back to work today, so that's a good thing.

Hopefully I'll be back to fencing in no time!

I hope you feel better soon! Being sick all the time just really sucks, doesn't it? I understand completely.

It really does. And I was doing so well! *sob* Oh well, guess I need to get off my duff and actually take care of myself from now on.
