The prelude to Pennsic has come and gone again. I didn't do some of what I wanted, had some good experiences - didn't drink (other than trying my brother's amazingly yummy blueberry mead!!!), and actually wrote. I'll post my metrics in a separate post, though.
So, I got 2 hours vacation Friday night, so I could drive up to the site (Hebron, ME) starting at 10 pm instead of midnight. I was supposed to be at work at 12:30 pm, but due to circumstances beyond my control (ie, my ignition system needed to be completely rewired), I made it in at 2:30 pm instead. Still got out at 10, and by 10:30, was on my way (had to make one stop first).
Made it up to the site by 2 am (took one wrong turn, grumble), and trolled in. I'd volunteered to do herald's point and Royal Court, so I wasn't sure what else I was going to be able to do.
argus7hills had come up earlier in the day, so camp was all set up. Yay! Love my hubby.
Saturday, was up early and went to Walmart with my SIL to get stuff. You know, event weekends are expensive sometimes. *sigh* But it was all stuff I needed, and I'll use. Especially the fleece, since it was damn cold Friday night (the fact that my side of the air mattress hadn't been closed properly and so was 3/4 empty by morning was most likely the biggest culprit there, but still) - I'm going to blanket stitch the edges and make us nice fleece blankets for Pennsic.
argus7hills got a new shirt and I got cards for card weaving, and more yarn and a shuttle. I know, I know - I need another hobby like I need a hole in my head, but himself wants more period garb, and most Byzantine has woven trim. And the woven stuff is expensive. And my bead loom (which I can't use, because Tayla loves Nymo - specifically, flossing her teeth with it *sigh*) can be used as a card loom too, so I'll get to use it. And this shouldn't entice Miss Tayla to floss.
Spent a few hours at Herald's Point on Saturday - did my first few consultations as a warranted herald. (as an aside, am I the only one who totally wants to capitalize the word "herald" everywhere now?) Then it was off to Royal Court - I got to read two AoAs and didn't screw up! Go me! I'd had nightmares the night before of totally effing up and having His Majesty escort me off the stage, take my tabard and tell me I was never allowed in a court again - no, I'm not kidding. It was awful. But I did really well - got lots of good feedback afterwards.
Oh, and congrats to
beard5 for his Maunche, and to
dorio's wife for her Silver Crescent! Vivat!!!
Then
argus7hills and I went shopping, and then to dinner with
amcnh and
beard5.
amcnh, thank you SOOO much for feeding us! You rock mightily!
We hung out with them most of the night, until I went up to the barn with Cassandra (the laptop) and banged out 2k on Seasons. I feel so virtuous! Then it was off to bed - I was wiped.
Sunday, I took a class on quick meads (going to try and do a fruit mead for Harpers - maybe strawberry) with Countess Arastorm, then went back over to Herald's Point for another few hours. Then ducked the raindrops to help
argus7hills finish packing up the camp. He's so good - he got the pavilion down before the rain started!!! Yay!!!
We had lunch at this buffet place in Mechanics Falls - very yummy. I highly recommend it. Then came home, crashed for an hour, then got up and fixed the internet again. And then to writing.
So how was everyone else's weekends?
