Saturday is Farmer's Market day, and today, they had the first apples of the season!!! Mmm, fresh Jersey Macs - so crisp and yummy, and small enough to fit in my bentos! And the new prevailing wisdom is that for fruits, you should be looking for the small ones, because the antioxidants are more concentrated, or something like that. Whatever. They're yummy.

I got a ton of stuff today:

- 4 Jersey Macs
- 1 Leek
- 1 Red Onion
- 1 Pint of Blueberries
- 1 Cucumber
- 1 bag of Red Potatoes
- 2 meat pastries (lunch for Argus and I)
- 1 jar of Apricot Pineapple Jam
- 1 dozen fresh eggs
- 1 pint Skim milk

The milk and pastries are gone already. The cucumber is getting sliced and put into the brine today ([livejournal.com profile] onyxlives, we have totally abandoned store pickles now). I'll be actually USING the zucchini and making zucchini bread before the game, and slicing up the leeks and freezing them. Tomorrow, the landlady is getting me peaches from the local farm, so I'll be making peach pie filling and canning it.

I'm also making food for the week this weekend. I've got ground turkey thawing, as well as sausage - going to make a sausage pasta bake, as well as a big pan of shephard's pie. I'll package them up individually once it's cooled, and putting them in the freezer for the week - lunch done! And since I'm working late Monday, and heading to Mom's Wednesday, it will make everything so much easier.

And those blueberries? I have pancakes on the brain for tomorrow morning. Mmmm, fresh blueberry pancakes with REAL NH Maple Syrup. Mmm, and bacon. Must have bacon.

And I can make enough pancakes for breakfast for the week too...;)

Which means I'd better get my arse in gear - I've got a lot to do today! I'll post my food list for the week later, in case folks are interested.

And yes, I'm going to putting a lot of food-stuff out in the next few weeks. That's why I'm putting a new tag in.

*the smell of zucchini bread distracts domy from her writin'*

*sighs*

;)

And I think I'll have to try to hunt up a meat pastry recipe. Those sound good and might make good bento additions...assuming I can ever afford to bento any time soon. :P

Btw, we have peoples in chat....

My favorite is to take ground beef, raisins, cumin, cinnamon, garlic and onions - saute them all together, then just take biscuit dough, fill them and fold them over and bake them at 300 degrees for 30 minutes. Yummy! And not expensive at all!

Mmmm. Real NH Maple Syrup....how I miss it so...my sister sent us some Patti Page Singing Maple Syrup last year (yes, the cap plays a little tune reminiscent of her hit "Old Cape Cod" :p ), but we're close to out of it! O NOES!

I think my wife and I may go to the farmer's market they have at the Ferry Building here in SF...there's always a lot of really good locally grown fruits & veggies that are soooooooooo good. And one thing we like about it is that all our sampling during that time usually amounts to our lunch. :p

I love the local markets - and yes, there really isn't anything as good as NH Maple syrup....

I *love* farmers' markets. Just walking by all the stuff is so fun--and you got bunches of the best stuff. Mmmm, love what you're doing with it, too...
