Be warned. Most of this entry is not only a rant, but it's filled with female TMI.

Some of you may remember the problem I had last summer, when I ended up in the emergency room twice because my period was so heavy that I was going through a big overnight pad in about 45 minutes. This is BAD. After some doctors' appointments, they decided to try me on Seasonale, to regulate the period. This is after an ultrasound and an MRI to see about fibroids, endometriosis, or cysts. Nothing. My blood results came back normal - no hormone fluctuations, nothing. No cancer (we checked that too.)

NO reason for my uterus to be vomiting bloody chunks.

So, we tried the Seasonale. First, I had to have a normal period. This didn't happen until about March. (My period is notoriously sensitive to stress, and when my stress level goes up, it goes into hibernation.) March comes, I have normal period (about 5 days, not heavy blood levels, no chunks), so I start the Seasonale.

Good gods.

Now, the packaging said that I might have some breakthrough bleeding the first cycle, which is fine (Seasonale is the one that you take for 3 months, and you get a period 4 times a year). I could deal with spotting. Spotting is NOT what happened.

After 3 weeks, I started bleeding again. REALLY bleeding. And the chunks were back. But I gritted my teeth and continued - I could handle it, right? Because there's nothing actually WRONG that we can find.

It's now been four weeks. After 3, I realized that the Seasonale was not only doing shit-all to stop the bleeding, but it was making me absolutely psychotically angry (as in, I was contemplating murdering people at work for stupid shit that shouldn't bother me), and I wasn't writing at all. All I was doing was working, bleeding and sleeping. So, on the advice of my mother (gotta love having a pharmacist in the family), I stopped the Seasonale and called the doctor back again.

The upshot? I have an appointment on Thursday, and Mom is coming with me. She thinks the next step is probably a D&C to clean it all out, and then probably a specialist. I'm already dealing with my OB/GYN, but I guess I might see someone else? Who knows.

All I know is that I'm tired of this. I'm exhausted (most likely due to blood loss), I'm not writing, I'm missing work because I can barely stand, never mind drive, I'm connected to my heating pad and I'm BITCHY. Wicked bitchy.

Bah.

My doctor found that my lining was maturing at various rates that was causing my problems, and they finally put me on hormones to stop the bleeding entirely. If you're not planning on kids, this might be an option for you as well. Hell, even if you are planning on kids--they can always take you off the hormones.

Interesting - how did they find that out, if you don't mind my asking? And kids are a meh - the only thing I'm worried about is too much estrogen, as Mom's cancer was estrogen-receptive.

They did...ummm..a sonogram? Then they did an MRI. And I guess the lining showed up as different thicknesses. They then did a D&C (this was...summer before last) and put me on hormones to stop the bleeding entirely for a bit. When they tried to have hormones regulate the bleeding, it didn't work, so I was put back on hormones to stop the bleeding entirely. Since I'm fixed to not have any more children, it was pretty much decided I didn't need to have the function that would allow me to do so. lol

Ah. I've already had the MRI and the ultrasound - they didn't show anything abnormal, sadly.

But if the system isn't working, whatever the reason, I'd think it would still be an option to shut the cycle down.

Ahhhhh! I didn't realize that. Sorry. Sounds like your hormones are a bit...off?

Not according to the bloodwork I had done. That's why we're stumped.

Bless your heart! This sounds awful. Here's hoping you get some real answers - and solutions - this time. I'm sending best wishes and good vibes your way. *hugs*

*hugs* Thanks. I'm really looking forward to finding out what the heck is going on.

I'm contemplating it, but until we know what's wrong, my doctor doesn't want to go that route. Add in that I'm only 36 and that I have the Crohns, and she's just going very slowly to make sure we don't miss anything.

So sorry to hear it--it must be exhausting and miserable. I really, really hope you get some relief soon.

((hugs))

*BIG, BIG HUGS* fwiw, I'm in the same boat. well, they have 50% of mine accounted for. The other 50% they're like "umm... well.. We dunno why it's doing THAT. Maybe it will clear up when the rest does?" >.>

So yeah, I feel ya on the frustration and the feeling like crap. *am lighting a candle for you* Hang in there.
