Starting line:
They all paused at a middle landing, trying to catch their breath. Then Isaac looked around and his breath fled again.

Ending line:
The Tower’s interior was black as coal.

Darling:
Along the bottom, written in gilt letters, was a Latin inscription. Isaac knelt down and murmured, “Domine Salvam Fac Reginam Nostram Victoriam Primam.” Then, when Andrew frowned at him, he translated, “Oh Lord, keep safe our Queen Victoria the First. Good lord, man, did your tutor teach you nothing?”

“I learned other things than Latin,” Andrew replied.

“I should hope so, since your classical training is hideous,” Isaac retorted.

“That’s why we’re partners,” Andrew said. “You have the book learning, and I’ve the money. It’s a perfect match.”

Yep, today kicked off my personal march on writing every day. Got 1100 words written on the prewriting for Birka Chronicles, which is turning into quite the little tongue-in-cheek murder mystery. I have my first victim. I have a whole little town turning out, and I'm getting a handle on the politics of the situation. The first episode of this will be up in February, for those who are looking. I'm coinciding it as of this point to go up when CiG goes out. This may be subject to change, but I'll let all of you know.

Favorite part so far: "I mean, we don't really kill people, do we?" "Well, yeah. We're pirates. It's kind of part of the job description."

Yes, very tongue-in-cheek.

No word meters (Zokutu is being cranky) so here are not pretty ones:

Personal January goal

1100/31000

Good to start the year ahead. :)

Now time for a bath and bed.

ending count: 5260

starting line: “You think it’s a Corn God sacrifice gone wrong?”

ending line: Rick, buoyed by Shanna's Power, pushed his senses out past the emerald green of the garden, into the brilliantly flaring atmosphere of the campus.

darling: Magic crawled along her skin like a lover’s touch, exploring her with warm, feather fingers that set her blood to racing for an entirely different reason.
Word Goal for the day: 750 - made 843

Starting line: “So you shoved Robert’s psychotic spirit into James, who has major shields but no Talent, as far as anyone knows, because you thought your psychotic brother would protect him from your psychotic aunt?”

Ending line: “I need to understand what’s going on, and how this is all connected.” I shook my head. “This is all interconnected somehow. I just can’t see how yet.” I looked over at Claire. “Can I pick your brain?”

Darling: “I hate to break it to you, Claire, but he’s a loon. A handsome loon, but a loon nonetheless.” I sighed. “So how do we get him out of there?”

***

Got words. This whole section is dragging a bit, but it's got some fun dialogue. I'm sure most of it won't survive. :)

More later. Cat is whining, so I have to go to bed.
Well, two writing days, anyways. Combined my word goal, since I didn't post from Sunday.

Word Goal for the day: 1500 - made 1704

Starting line: The problem was that the diary was…odd. Almost fragmented, as if there were other things that hiding beneath the surface of the page that I couldn’t quite see yet.

Ending line: I couldn’t believe I was having this conversation.

Darling: It was a storm. A literal hurricane of madness, light and sound, buffeting me from all angles. And then darkness fell, and I fell with it.

***

This cold is kicking my ass, but it's made for some fun writing. I'm not sure the conversation I just wrote will remain, but it was definitely enjoyable to write. Now I'm off to bed to try and sleep (thank you, NyQuil!) before a busy day tomorrow.

Oh, and I got all the little bags cut out and machine-stitched, and got 7 finished off and strung. I'll bring a couple tomorrow to show my autocrat. Hopefully she'll like them.

Lots to do tomorrow. See you all later!
Whew! I got a lot of words done!

Not as many as I wanted, of course, but a lot, nonetheless. Here's all the gory details:

Belladonna Dreams

Word Goal for the day: 750 - made 1586

Starting line: “Good question. And Claire doesn’t want me anywhere near it.” I took a sip of soda. “She was very clear about that.”

Ending line: A nurse hurried by me, and it was almost as if I could see the blood rushing through her skin, which got less transparent the farther she went.

Darling: No birds chirped, and even in the midst of a bright, warm late autumn afternoon, cold shadows lay heavy over the entire clearing. Dark trees hunched over pieces of broken wall, glowering natural gargoyles. I had wondered, briefly, whether it had been this depressing when it was operational.

Then I had Changed, and so had the entire world.

Yup, got quite a bit done today. 'Bout damn time!

Word Goal for the day: 750 - made 4051

Starting line: I found some leftover French toast and sausage, which microwaved nicely and went well with the Dr. Pepper I pulled out.

Ending line: -Put your other hand up!- she ordered, and I reached. Another set of hands reached into the water, and I was hauled out.

Darling: His lips tasted sweet, a numbing sweetness that spread through me as he kissed me. My eyes closed; the kiss deepened and his hands fell down to pull me closer, melding body to body in a fierce embrace. Time fell away; there was no cold, no wind – only his arms around me and the fire between us growing hotter and wilder. My hands clutched at his muscular shoulders as his tongue forced its way farther into my mouth. Any gentleness on either part fell away; we clung to each other desperately, trying to become one.

and

In the Ghostlands, the sunlight dimmed to twilight. No doubt about this place being haunted now; shadowed emotion lay heavy upon everything, every trembling branch and leaf, every rill of water. I settled in on the rock to watch, certain something would show.

Deaths: Nope.

Good Things: Smoochies!

Bad Things: She fell into the pond.

I'm really getting back into this book. I'm hoping to definitely get serious wordage tomorrow.

Night all!

Starting line: “Stay back,” I said, as Kate started to lean down.

Ending line: Emotion like this was a beacon in the Ghostlands, and I was in no shape to deal with what might show up to see what all the fuss was about.

Darling: Mine is just a switch, hanging on a blank wall. One of those old-time connector switches – you know, the one that Dr. Frankenstein had Igor flip, to connect the circuits and wake the monster up? Yeah, one of those. And usually, all I have to do is call up the image in my head, flip the switch, and I Change.

Deaths: Nope.

Good Things: none. She's pretty well pooched at this point, as far as she's concerned.

Bad Things: See above. Sapph's trapped, and she hasn't got a clue as to how to get out.

No mocking today! Yay! Go me!

Now on to Broken Wings. I got me a date with some War. :D

Starting line: -Because it’s not time yet,- she replied. –We have to finish everything we started.-

Ending line: As the last of the blue dissolved, my breathing slowed, and I opened my eyes to see David and Kate waiting anxiously.

Darling: Ellen was younger than Anne, with full, pouty lips and a face that was simultaneously prettily innocent and madly jaded. A good trick – I was impressed.

and

I could smell that sweetness on her breath, like a decaying flower; whatever it was, it was nauseating.

Deaths: Nope.

Good Things: Um, neat metaphors?

Bad Things: Ellen's just as bad as Sapph fears. Maybe worse.

I have avoided mocking! At least for today! :D

However, I'm not happy with what I wrote. Well, as far as it goes, I'm happy. But it needs more.

Bah.

Oh, and I had to defriend [livejournal.com profile] novel_in_90; I can't be wading through that much stuff on my flist. But I'll still be posting every day!
Word Goal for the day: 1000 - made 3249

Starting line: “No, you don’t, little Mage, do you?” came an oddly-familiar voice out of the mists. “You never have. Even when the odds are against you.”

Ending line: “Good.” Krys could feel the satisfaction in the angel’s voice. “Then, in gratitude, you must release Caran as well. Cure her. Thomas should do it. It will bring him further into our fold.”

Darling: Shadows leapt up around her, Shadows shot with emerald and gold, and Power shone out of her dark blue eyes. Amy shrank back from her, suddenly realizing why she hadn’t died when Alex had stabbed her.

How would you kill someone like that? She thought, and the girl smiled slightly.

“You don’t,” she said, and Power laced through her words. “So don’t try. Now what do you want?”

Deaths: Nope.

Good Things: um, 2 chapters done? Oh, and Derek and Amy finally get to find Nikki.

Bad Things: Madness is starting to make her moves. Look for mondo bad to come.

***

Final push. I have 5 more chapters left on my outline. It's 2 pm EST. My personal deadline is 12:01 am 1/1/07.

Can I make it? Well, I'm hoping to!!!

I'll be posting updates throughout the day, to keep me honest and keep me working.
Word Goal for the day: 1000 - made 866

Starting line: The Shadow Mage’s eyes went flat, red anger beginning to chase the rest of the drug-induced haze from them. “Open it and find out,” Alex taunted him.

Ending line: The grey was still there, filling up his room, softening the harsh white lights.

Darling: not really.

Deaths: Nope.

Good Things: Alex got to meet another one of the children.

Bad Things: Thomas hit Alex in the mouth. And he ranted.

This week wasn't good for writing. I'm chalking it up to the holidays and am thankful that I have a 3-day weekend that I DON'T HAVE TO GO ANYWHERE!!! I'm going to curl up with my heater and my WIP and a couple dozen bottles of NyQuil and Pepsi, and finish Seasons. That's the goal for the new year.
Which I will put behind a cut to spare my flist.

Metrics )

Life was interesting this weekend - we helped [livejournal.com profile] aishabintjamil clean up her mother's house. Found some really cool vintage stuff - I have the most awesome new hat. :D But there was a LOT of stuff to be gotten rid of - apparently, neither her mother or her great-aunt believed in throwing ANYTHING out. It was...educational, to say the least.

This is the second time I've helped out a friend doing that. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] watermelontail, remember Dina's house? This one, luckily, was smaller, and we were allowed to throw stuff out.

***

I realized a major plot point that I can't believe I've forgotten so far, and this leads me to believe that the piece of story I'm writing now might get pushed back farther into the book in the next draft. After everything that went down at Gene-Tech at the end of the last book, there is NO WAY in HELL that the cops are not going to want to talk to Nikki. No way. Unless...*light goes off in author's brain* Maybe that's who Derek is!

I'm so smart. :p

Sleep now. More tomorrow.
